The name change from Singapore Bus Service Limited to SBS Transit Ltd in November 2001 was to reflect its bi-modal status as a bus and rail operator.
On 10 April 2018, ComfortDelGro Bus announced its acquisition of AZ Bus Pte Ltd, and announced on 25 July 2018, that it will acquire the private bus chartering assets of Ric-Tat Travel & Coach Services Pte Ltd and its associated companies. Upon completion of this deal, ComfortDelGro Bus will have a total fleet of over 700 buses, including sub-contractors' buses, further strengthening its leading position in the market.
It also operates the 42km Downtown Line (DTL), the longest underground line in Singapore with 34 stations. The first stage of DTL commenced passenger service on 22 December 2013, while the second stage of DTL commenced passenger service on 27 December 2015. It became fully operational on 21 October 2017.
SBS Transit also operates the Sengkang and Punggol Light Rapid Transit Systems.
From its humble beginnings of 1,000 Morris Oxford taxis in 1970, Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd has since grown to become Singapore’s largest taxi operator. CityCab Pte Ltd was formed in April 1995 through a merger of three taxi operations, namely Singapore Airport Bus Services Ltd, ComfortDelGro (S.E. Asia) Pte Ltd (formerly known as SBS Taxi Pte Ltd) and Singapore Commuter Pte Ltd.
Today, ComfortDelGro Taxi operates environmentally friendly taxis, including limousine cabs using Mercedes Benz vehicles such as the Euro 6 BlueTEC models.
Besides handling most of ComfortDelGro's taxi fleet in Singapore, it also handles the repairs of private passenger cars and commercial vehicles annually at its seven workshops located across Singapore. ComfortDelGro Engineering offers a full range of technical services which includes fleet maintenance, general repairs, engine diagnostic, system overhaul and crash repairs. Component re-manufacturing is also amongst its offerings.
In addition, it offers vehicle recovery and towing service round-the-clock and is currently the authorised workshop for 17 insurance companies in Singapore. ComfortDelGro Engineering also sells fuel to the Group's taxi fleet.
VICOM Ltd acquired Setsco Services Pte Ltd (SETSCO) in January 2003, thus enlarging its Inspection & Testing Services to include non-vehicular businesses.
SETSCO is one of Singapore's largest inspection and testing companies. It is accredited by the Singapore Accreditation Council - Singapore Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (SAC-Singlas) to ISO/IEC 17025. The company has more than 30 years of experience in providing a comprehensive range of testing, calibration, inspection, consultancy and training services to a wide spectrum of industries, such as the aerospace, building and construction, electronics, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, engineering, chemical and biotechnology industries, both locally and globally.
The Centre uses the Driver Assessment Tool - an advanced technological measurement tool - to provide an unbiased and objective evaluation of a learner’s driving skills and how well he or she interacts with others to help them improve their driving behaviour.
As a leading driving centre, ComfortDelGro Driving Centre is the only centre in Singapore recognised for its continuous efforts towards business excellence, with the successful certifications of People Developer Standards, ISO 9001:2008 and Singapore Quality Class.
It proposes and implements solutions involving a blend of traditional insurance products, alternative risk financing instruments and methods to help the Group mitigate any risks faced in an increasingly complex environment.
It offers a range of advertising platforms, including buses, taxis as well as rail and LRT stations, and bus hubs as prime ambience sites for advertisers to choose and advertise in a wide array of eye-catching ways.
In 2011, Moove Media made its entry into New South Wales, Australia, specialising in transit advertising on over 1,000 buses in Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra. Its coverage was further expanded to include Victoria, Australia in 2017.
ComfortDelGro MedCare Pte Ltd provides non-emergency transportation services to those with mobility issues, including wheelchair users, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens, as well as groups from healthcare or day care centres, medical institutions and social service agencies.
Its fleet of minibuses comes with raised roofs and are retrofitted with automatic hydraulic lifts, safety retractors and forward-facing seats to ensure both wheelchair users and their caregivers are able to sit comfortably. ComfortDelGro MedCare drivers are also trained staff who are able to administer first aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation or CPR as well as operate an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Zig, the newest smart mobility and digital services app was launched to cater to the growing need for speed and convenience – through the ubiquitous mobile phone on 9 March 2021.
Conceptualised and operated by CDG Zig Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the ComfortDelGro Group, Zig marks the Group’s entry into the lifestyle arena whilst leveraging on its strength in the mobility business. Users will be able to connect and commute conveniently, as well as discover new experiences in and around Singapore. Its interactive map-based interface makes it easy to search for lifestyle services – from making dining reservations, placing click-to-collect orders at selected Food & Beverage (F&B) merchants, purchasing tickets at entertainment outlets and attractions, to finding great deals, as well as planning their journeys from one point to another. Each experience can be customised to fit a user’s personal preferences – whether they are adventure seekers or creatures of habits.
