  • The fund forms part of Zig’s broader S$25 million commitment to support driver welfare programmes over the next five years.

Singapore, 26 June 2026 – As taxi drivers balance long hours on the road with the rising cost of their children’s education, Zig by ComfortDelGro (“Zig”, “劲”) is expanding its support for driver families through a new Education Support Fund. Backed by a S$1 million commitment, the fund supports children of taxi drivers from primary through to tertiary education and forms part of Zig’s broader investment of more than S$25 million in driver welfare programmes over the next five years.

The inaugural awards ceremony was attended by Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance, Mr Jeffrey Siow, with S$200,000 awarded to children from driver families in recognition of their academic achievements. The ceremony marks a new chapter in a legacy that traces back to 1975, when NTUC Comfort first introduced education bursaries for drivers’ children.

Through the Education Support Fund, this support now extends beyond primary and secondary education to include tertiary studies, providing more continuous support as students progress through key stages of their academic journey.

Mr Michael Huang, Head of Singapore Point-to-Point Mobility Business, said: “Our drivers are the backbone of our business, and supporting their families is central to how we care for the driver community. Through the Education Support Fund, we hope to ease the pressures of raising and educating children, while empowering the next generation to pursue their goals with confidence.”

Among this year’s recipients is Mr Sieow Yew Lee, a Zig driver-partner for 30 years, and his three children. Mr Sieow said: “When I learned the Education Support Fund would now include tertiary-level support, it was a huge relief for my family. Support like this helps with my children’s school fees, easing the financial pressures on me and allowing them to stay focused on their studies.”

Mr Sieow’s oldest son, Sieow Yi Xin, a second-year polytechnic student, said: “I’m interested in pursuing a career in finance, and this support motivates me to work hard and make something of myself. The award also helps my family plan ahead as I work towards attending university, giving me more confidence to pursue my goals.”

The Education Support Fund is part of Zig’s commitment of over S$25 million to a wider suite of driver welfare initiatives, which includes rental support, medical and insurance benefits, training and upskilling opportunities, and other welfare schemes. Together, these reflect Zig’s continued commitment to caring for drivers beyond the road and supporting the families behind every journey.
